KRONOTEX Shines with Effective Energy Management

06. July 2012 | KRONOTEX’s certified energy management system underscores our consistent efforts to reduce energy consumption – starting with manufacture of our products.
At KRONOTEX, our wholehearted commitment to protecting the environment truly represents our corporate philosophy in action – and is not just empty lip service paid to an abstract principle. It starts with the raw materials we obtain to make KRONOTEX laminate flooring, it includes our production activities and it naturally also extends to our how our products are subsequently processed and used. In a nutshell: for us, environmental awareness plays a role throughout our products’ lifecycles. We have anchored our standards in the KRONOTEX environmental protection guidelines, and we put them into practice in accordance with our environmental management system.
Our energy management system is another important part of these guidelines. In late 2011, KRONOTEX was certified for this system by an independent auditing and certification company as conforming to DIN EN ISO 50001. An energy management system is defined as the sum of all activities that are planned and implemented to reduce the consumption of energy and resources on a long-term basis. A very concrete example is how we use production scrap and residues. Grinding dust and wood chips resulting from the production of wooden floors are turned into electricity in a special power plant at our Heiligengrabe site. We use this energy ourselves in our production facility or feed it into the public grid as eco-power. It is through practices like these that we meaningfully utilise resources: efficiently, ecologically and sustainably.
Thanks to our energy management system, we have succeeded in significantly lowering the energy needs of our buildings and electrical and transport systems, thus also noticeably slashing CO2 emissions. By means of our energy management system and many other measures, we actively protect the climate – starting with the production of KRONOTEX laminates. All of these efforts culminate in positive environmental balance sheets for our products, which have been awarded various eco-quality seals and labels.
